Buddha Beach

Beach haven with an exotic touch

Text Giles Brown

This summer Buddha Beach open its doors for a third year, once again offering guests the opportunity of enjoying sumptuous cuisine, trendy music and a relaxing atmosphere. Taking its inspiration from Thailand and the Far East, the main area, comprising the restaurant and beds by the pool, is a raised wooden-decked section that looks out across the Mediterranean; while the beach area has 100 beds all, with waiter service.

The creation of Claire Strutton and Ian Radford, Buddha Beach provides a secluded haven away from the busy Banús port, enabling guests to while away the day relaxing by the pool, sampling great dishes from the fusion menu and listening to the smooth tunes playing throughout the day.

The ambience at the beach club is fun and relaxed yet funky, appealing to everyone from a family with children to a couple who fancy a romantic day or night out.

The main bar area is the perfect place to sip cocktails while sheltering from the midday sun, while the beachside bar gives a great view of the beach for those who love to people watch and want to soak up more rays. This year the kitchen has been taken over by chef Diego Nicolas Figueredo Martinez, who has worked in Michelin-starred restaurants in New York. His experience and expertise have taught him not to change something that has been so well received for the past two years, which means Buddha regulars will be pleased to see favourites such as the delicious Thai green curry and salt and pepper squid still on the menu for this year.

Other dishes include the fabulous tempura prawns, the succulent chicken satay, the delicious gambas pil pil and the amazing Chateaubriand. The restaurant is open for both lunch and dinner throughout the summer, offering everything from sushi and seafood platters to light bites; while a well-priced wine list and an excellent selection of cocktails round off any meal perfectly.

With some enormous sporting events taking place over the summer, Buddha Beach is the place to watch all the action and excitement. They have a separate World Cup Bar with a widescreen TV, ideal for watching and supporting your team in the World Cup or your favourite driver in the Grand Prix.

There are also some great music events being hosted at Buddha this summer including soul legends The Drifters on 31 July, performing classics such as Under the Boardwalk and Saturday Night at the Movies; and a three-day music event from 6-8 August featuring Manolo and Lito playing music from The Gypsy Kings.

Various ticket prices and packages including dinner, such as Buddha’s famed Thai Buffet, are available with each music event.
